The Tenant Advice & Advocacy Service (TAAS) is a project of Near North Housing Service Inc, a not-for-profit organisation in Queensland.
Near North Housing Service Inc operates three TAAS (Tenant Advice & Advocacy Service) services. The first is known as Near North Tenant Advice & Advocacy Service and is located at Morayfield in the Caboolture Shire approximately 40 minutes drive north of Brisbane. The second is located in Zillmere, a northern suburb of Brisbane approximately 30 minutes from the city and our third office is located at Stafford which is approximately 20 minutes from the Brisbane CBD. Near North Housing Service Inc is funded by the Queensland Department of Communities and the Queensland Residential Tenancies Authority to provide a range of services to private and public rental tenants. Near North Housing Service Inc has operated tenant advice and housing information and referral services since 1991 and was originally established in 1987. All services are provided free of charge by fully trained staff. Our main activity is providing tenancy advice and advocacy services to residential tenants and residents of residential accommodation facilities. Our services are aimed at assisting private rental tenants, public housing tenants as well as future tenants and members of the general community. Due to the number of refugees settled on the north side of Brisbane our services at Morayfield and Stafford employ appropriately trained multicultural workers who play an important role in providing advice, advocacy and assistance to newly arrived refugees and migrants as well as those refugees who have been settled in Brisbane for a number of years. Our multicultural workers use fully accredited interpreters at all times when dealing with clients of a CALD (culturally and linguistically diverse) background and are happy to provide additional services to assist whenever possible. As applying for Social Housing and NRAS (National Rental Affordability Scheme) housing can be complex and involves a lot of detail our staff are very willing to assist with these applications and work closely with the Dept of Communities, Housing and Homelessness area offices to provide the best service possible to clients wishing to apply for this type of rental housing. Staff can also assist with information and preparation for QCAT hearings - see our Tenants and QCAT page for more information. We do not provide advice to lessors, agents or property owners, however our staff are happy to provide contact numbers for appropriate agencies who are able to assist lessors, agents and property owners. Should you require assistance with information regarding the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act, please feel free to contact our staff with any queries. Contact details are available on our Contact Us page. |
